Jam Gadang is a clock tower located in the center of Bukittinggi city in West Sumatra province and become thae landmark of that city. The clock tower was created by Yazid Sutan Gigi Amh in 1926. The clock tower was a gift from the Queen of Dutch to Controleur (Sekretaris Kota).
When Dutch colonialism era this clock tower’s shape was globula with the cock on the top. When Japanese colonialsm era this clocl tower’s shape as pagoda and in Independence era the shape change in to ornament West Sumatra traditional house,
The tower clock’s diameter is 80 cm with ground plan 13 x 4 meters and 26 height is 26 meter. The building of this clock tower had spend about 3000 gulden. This clock tower has its own uniqueness. The number at this clock tower written in Roman. The Roman for number four is usually used IV but in Jam Gadang, it is singed with IIII. And now the clock tower has become a landmark of West Sumatra.
