In Bali, ngejot means giving something (usually food) to others when we have a celebration or during certain holidays. Probably about the same as in other areas throughout Indonesia, in Bali there is also this ngejot tradition. Actually, the general nature of the Indonesia especially in Bali is helping and sharing, and this ngejot tradition is one of the real evidence. Ngejot tradition in Bali can be divided into two: ngejot when holidays and ngejot when someone has a celebration or perform a traditional ceremony / religion.
Ngejot when holidays such as Galungan, Brass and more usually more voluntary and adjust the situation and condition. That is what we have is what we give to others is usually neighbors and friends and relatives. Maybe because at that time almost everyone is celebrating the holidays, so it can be said is like exchanging gifts because usually ngejot each other.
In addition, in certain regions of multiple, non-Hindu religious communities also receive jotan (goods / food provided ngejot time), and vice versa when the feast of other people such as Idul Fitri, Christmas, Vesak and other Hindus also feel it .
Meanwhile, ngejot when conducting a traditional ceremony / religion like pawiwahan (marriage), mepandes / metatah (cutting teeth), nelu bulanin (three months), Odalan, otonan and others a little different. For a relatively large ceremonies such as weddings, cut tooth, three monthly, usually carried out more formal ngejot, jotan content is set in such a way, a list of people receiving jotan any, and who brought jotan also customary dress. Contents jotan usually a satay, rice (with a certain dose), Lawar, fruit and other. People who receive jotan usually per head of the family, ie neighbors, and relatives within a certain range. People who receive jotan this also means is invited to come to attend the ceremony.
As for religious ceremonies such as smaller otonan, Odalan in merajan alit (small family shrine) and other, more dynamic like ngejot ngejot during religious holidays. Not all holiday in Bali followed ngejot tradition, which certainly is a day of Galungan, Kuningan, Pagerwesi and others. While the holiday Nyepi, Saraswati, and several other rarely followed by ngejot tradition.
