MUSEUM GAJAH
The History
Museum Nasional was built in 1862 by Netherland government. This museum authenticated in 1868. But institutionally, this museum built in 1778, when Netherland Government formed Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen.
Museum Nasional well known as Museum Gajah, when
Raja Chulalongkorn from Thailanda presented a big statue of elephant in 1871. But in May 28 1979, Indonesian government announce officially its name became Museum Nasional Republik Indonesia. In February 17, 1962, Lembaga Kebudayaan Indonesia, one of institution which managed this museum, devolved this museum to Indonesian government. Since that day, this museum managed officially by Direktorat Jendral Sejarah dan Arkeologi, under controlled by Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan. But in 2005, this museum was under controlled by Kementrian Budaya dan Pariwisata. This Museum located in Jalan merdeka Barat. Its easy to find its location, just see the big elephant statue in fron of this building.
The Collection.
One of the most important collection of Museum Gajah is Patung Bhairawa. Its height is 414 cm. this statue is the most tall in Museum. This statue is manifestion from Dewa Lokeswara who personification from Boddhisatwa in the world. This statue found in Padang Roco, West Sumatra. This statue was estimated formed in 13th-14th century.
Another collection is arca Buddha Dipangkara made from bronze. This arca is keep in a glass box .
Its important fro us to know more about ancient things and we can find out the history in a museum. So as a young generation, we should take care this museum and also its collection. So visit this museum and you will learn the past.
