Wiwitan Tradition from Yogyakarta,Indonesia

Tradition that was started by the farmers citizens rare Tens Sanden, Bantul, Yogyakarta, called wiwitan tradition or in the Indonesian language means starting.

This tradition is carried out for the commencement of the main harvest of rice plants. Wiwitan own ritual begins by preparing a variety of offerings, such as traditional food into the rice field.

Led by a local traditional leaders, farmers and then praying fervently to start the tradition wiwitan.

In this tradition, it deserves the rice plant is harvested and then stored for the next cut, and partly to be used as seed at planting time to come.

Wiwitan tradition is a form of expressing gratitude to the Creator, which has provided abundant crops.

To enliven the tradition, the residents of Kampung Dozens also held art gejog mortar, with songs that contain Java-song of the prosperity of farmers.

After the ritual finished wiwitan, various offerings that consist of sharing these traditional foods were distributed to residents who come to eat together.

Besides, as a form of thanksgiving, tradition is held as a form wiwitan to preserve the endangered cultural ritual among the Javanese peasant.
