Ngumo Tradition from Lampung,Indonesia

Ngumo is a farming system in society, especially indigenous Lampung Lampung Pepadun who live in the Inland area. Ngumo which is a traditional agricultural systems owned by indigenous peoples of Lampung Pepadun since their ancestors. Lampung community known as the community with dryland farming systems (non-irrigated). Only people such as the transmigration of Javanese migrants who introduced irrigation farming systems in Lampung. Due to the way ngumo that burns the forest and does not settle the local agricultural system was blamed for destroying the forest. This Tradition  indicate that there are circuits in Ngumo rituals symbolizing the "respect" people of Lampung on the natural environment, ie using forests as well as maintaining the forest. Ritual among others nyuwah (burning), discussion (cutting down small trees) and tuwagh (cutting down big trees). From the records also showed that this ritual has begun Lampung itself abandoned by society. Currents of modernization and acculturation in Lampung has been a big change in society membahwa Lampung. Added to Lampung transmigration and colonization as the destination since the former, cause people in Lampung become a minority group and not dominant. The tradition of local knowledge possessed by the people of Lampung underwent reduction. This study concludes that Lampung people actually have the local knowledge necessary to develop, which in fact shows that the traditional society has its own ways to conserve natural. It's when the tradition was abandoned, the ways of forest management style of modernization now add to the destruction of the forest itself.
