Semanggi Flyover is one built in the reign of President Sukarno. This bridge is called the Semanggi area because the area was built in Semanggi Rubber, Setiabudi, but many also say that as leaf shape Semanggi the Semanggi term use.
Semanggi inseparable with Jakarta. Clover became one of the icons Jakarta, perhaps second only to Monas. Semanggi more famous names in history and political development of democracy in Indonesia when the two demonstrations against the New Order regime in November 1998 and September 1999 and took over riot (at least 18) the lives of students and ordinary people. Bloody incident that became known as Event Semanggi I and II are not exhaustive legal affairs, completed up to now.
BRIDGE Semanggi, with the Bung Karno Stadium (on the Soeharto regime called Gelora Senayan), originally a prestige project as Bung Karno welcoming the Asian Games in 1962. The bridge was built in 1961.
Clover was chosen as the name of the bridge. Clover real local name (Java) plants that can be Marsileaceae Lalapan. Ivy-rambatannya to about 25 cm-were living in the bush, compound leaves (each consisting of four rod-shaped oval leaves that reach two inches long and 1 cm wide.
The bridge was designed to facilitate traffic flow to the four directions around the Semanggi area. But with increasing population and vehicles, the load the bridge was also added swollen. So the year 1988-1989 Semanggi experience with fixed mepertahankan widening its original form.
