Tekane Pitu Tradition from Tengger,East Java,Indonesia


Tenggerese residents have welcomed the arrival of a unique tradition of the Feast of Karo, which is a big holiday for the Hindu community in the region of Mount Bromo, East Java.

In a tradition called pitu tekane this, residents flocked to the house to ask for indigenous shamanic incantations. This ritual must be done each family to invite the arrival of spirits of their ancestors came to the celebration karo.

Tengger Hindu community living in the area of the slopes of Mount Bromo, precisely in Ngadisari Village, Sub Sukapura, Probolinggo, a few days got busy with a variety of preparations before the coming Hari Raya Karo, which is the biggest holiday for them. One of them held a ritual with pitu tekane tradition.

This tradition begins with the coming home of traditional healers to ask conditions of incense which had been given incantations. Residents even willing to stand in line at the home of the shaman to gain requirement. After getting incense, wargapun straight back to their homes for other preparations, which deliver a variety of targeted offerings for the spirits of their ancestors.

This hereditary ritual itself is intended to invite the spirits of their ancestors, in order to gather with family at home until the celebration of karo arrived.

Pitu tekane this ritual obligatory done by each family. If not done, people will soon come to believe a disaster for their families in the future. Karo own festivals calendar according Bromo Tengger tribe will take place next week.
