Almost general population have a belief that Bogor Bogor City has a locative relationship with the City Pakuan Pajajaran capital. The origin and meaning Pakuan in a variety of sources. Below are the results from these sources in order of time:
Manuscript Carita Waruga Teacher (1750's). In the Old Sundanese language text was explained that the name is based Pajajaran Pakuan in those locations that many Pakujajar trees. K.F. Holle (1869). In writing entitled De Batoe Toelis te Buitenzorg (Batutulis in Bogor), Holle said that near the town of Bogor village called Cipaku there, along the river that has the same name. There a lot of nails in trees. So according to Holle, Pakuan name has something to do with the presence of trees Cipaku and nails. Pakuan Pajajaran means trees that lined the nail ( "staande Rijen pakoe op bomen")
G.P. Rouffaer (1919) in Indie Encyclopedie van Niederlandsch Stibbe edition in 1919. Pakuan implies "nail", but must be interpreted "nail universe" (spijker der wereld) personal symbolizing the king as the title Pakubuwono and Paku Alam. "Pakuan" according to the equivalent Fouffaer "Maharaja". The word "Pajajaran" defined as "standing in line" or "balance" (evenknie). Rouffaer is meant to stand in line or balanced with Majapahit. Although not summarize Rouffaer Pajajaran Pakuan meaning, but from the description can be concluded that in his opinion Pakuan Pajajaran means "Maharaja, who stood in line or balanced with (Maharaja) Majapahit". He agreed with Hoesein Djajaningrat (1913) that Pakuan Pajajaran founded in 1433.
R. Ng. Poerbatjaraka (1921). In writing De Batoe-Toelis bij Buitenzorg (Bogor near Batutulis) he explains that the word "Pakuan" should come from the ancient Javanese language "pakwwan" later spelled "pakwan" (a "w", was written on the stele Batutulis). In the tongue of the Sundanese word would be pronounced "Pakuan". The word "pakwan" means a tent or palace. So, Pakuan Pajajaran, according Poerbatjaraka, meaning "palace lining" (aanrijen staande Hoven). H. Ten Dam (1957). As an engineer Agriculture, Ten Dam wanted to examine the socio-economic life of farmers in West Java with the initial approach in terms of historical development. In his writings, Verkenningen Rondom Padjadjaran (Introduction about Pajajaran), meaning "Pakuan" nothing to do with "phallus" (pillar) stone inscription fixed on the Batutulis as a sign of power. He reminded that in Carita Parahyangan cited the figures and the Haluwesi deems Susuktunggal still have a sense of "spikes".
He argues that "Pakuan" is not a name, but a common noun which means capital (hoffstad) that must be distinguished from the palace. The word "Pajajaran" ditinjaunya based topographic conditions. He referred to reports Captain Wikler (1690) who reported that he had crossed the Pajajaran Pakuan palace located between the River Great River Tanggerang (also called Ciliwung and Cisadane). Ten Dam draw the conclusion that the name "Pajajaran" appears because for several kilometers Ciliwung and Cisadane parallel flows. Thus, in terms of Pajajaran Pakuan Ten Dam is Pakuan in Pajajaran or "Dayeuh Pajajaran". The term "Pakuan", "Pajajaran", and "Pakuan Pajajaran" can be found in the inscription Batutulis (numbers 1 & 2) while the number 3 can be found on the inscription Kebantenan in Bekasi. Carita Parahyangan in the script is a sentence reading "The Susuktunggal, nyieunna nu inyana PALANGKA Sriwacana Sriman Sri Haji Baduga Maharajadiraja Queen at Pakwan nu Pajajaran Punta mikadatwan Bima Sri Narayana Suradipati Madura, inyana pakwan Sanghiyang Queen of the Gods" (The Susuktunggal, it was he who made the throne Sriman Sriwacana (to) Sri Maharaja Baduga Queen Ruler in Pakuan Pajajaran that resides in the palace of Punta Bima Sri Narayana Suradipati Madura, namely the Queen Sanghiyang Pakuan Dewata)
Queen Sanghiyang Gods is another title for Sri Baduga. So-called "Pakuan" it is "kadaton" named Sri Bhima and rivals. "Pakuan" is a place to stay for the king, called the palace, Kedaton or palace. So Poerbatjaraka interpretation is consistent with the intended meaning in Carita Parahyangan, namely "that lined the palace". Interpretation is much closer again if you look at the name of the court long enough, but consisted of the names that stand alone. It is estimated that there are five (5) building palaces, each named: Bima, Punta, Narayana, Madura and Suradipati. This is probably the so-called classical in terms of "five persada" (five palaces). Suradipati is the name of the main palace. This can be compared with the names of the other palaces, which Surawisesa in KAWALI, Surasowan in Jakarta and Surakarta in Jayakarta in the past. Because the long names that people may prefer to summarize, Pakuan Pajajaran or Pakuan or Pajajaran. Name of the palace can be expanded to name the capital and eventually became a state. For example: Name of court and Ngayogyakarta Surakarta Sultanate Sultanate, which extends to the capital's name and the name of the region. Ngayogyakarta Sultanate in everyday language is called Yogyakarta. Opinions Ten Dam (Pakuan = capital) is in use, but wrong in terms of semantics. In the report of Tome Pires (1513) mentioned that the Sundanese royal capital was called "Dayo" (dayeuh) and is located in the mountains, two days journey from the port at the mouth of Ciliwung Kalapa. The name "Dayo" he heard from residents or magnifying Kalapa Harbor. So clearly, the Port of Kalapa use the word "dayeuh" (not "Pakuan") if the intended call the capital. In everyday conversation, used the word "dayeuh", whereas in the literature used "Pakuan" to refer to the capital of the kingdom. For practical use in the following text "Pakuan" for the name of the capital and "Pajajaran" for a country, such as customs of West Java society today
