Ela-Ela,Ritual Obor from Ternate,Maluku,Indonesia
It's become a tradition in Ternate, welcomed the arrival of Laylat al-Qadr night or three nights before the coming Eid, Part of people held a ritual burning of a lamp or Ela-ela signs joy.
On each terrace or garden citizens, plastered a lamp, torch, or other similar traditional lighting. Ela-ela itself is a symbol of the arrival of a thousand months of light that marked the arrival of Laylat al-Qadr.
Ritual is ela-ela, marked by the burning of the main torch in each village by local community leaders or village elders. Normally, before burning lamps, read surah Al-Qadr is followed by a banquet provided a simple villagers in mutual cooperation.
After a traditional meal, the elders of the village and then continue with the tradition makudasi (shaking hands), a tradition stay in touch with the citizens, accompanied by a torch or Ela-ela who brought the children and traditional dances, while surrounding villages.
Tradition that has been running for hundreds of years which are now starting to shift. And, Ternate city administration intent on promoting more competition held between Ela-ela Sub District, in order to preserve the Islamic tradition that has existed since the sultanate of Ternate standing.
While the peak area fitted Marikurubu giant bamboo which are connected to hundreds of meters along the streets of the village which contains a small torches stuck in the bamboo.
